Cartea Şoaptelor (The Book of Whispers) – El Libro de los susurros – was published in Spanish

Pre-Text Publishing House in Spain announced the publication of one of “perhaps the most important books in European literature of recent years”: Cartea Şoaptelor (The Book of Whispers) by Varujan Vosganian.

On the website that presents the books written in Spanish www. estandarte.com was published the following text:

Vosganian, a Romanian of Armenian origin, mathematician and economist, former Minister of Economy and Finance of Romania, approaches the history of his people, full of atrocities and reprisals and, in the end, the Turks’ attempt to eradicate this nation at the beginning of the twentieth century.

His story doesn’t stop at denouncing, but it narrates through a poetic point of view about his people, about his family, about their lives, one by one, with little stories embedded in a choir that has undoubtedly the force of a great poem.

We offer you as proof the perfect naturalness of some paragraphs such as this one: “In my childhood, I lived in a world of whispers. They were uttered cautiously. Only later I learned that the whisper has also other meanings, such as tenderness or prayer. … “

Without doubt this is a book that will be appreciated by those who know that history is written better in small letters.

Joaquin Garriga is the translator of Cartea Şoaptelor (The Book of Whispers).
